Travis Tigers vs. Kempner Cougars - 2014 Football - Week 4
Kempner's Nick Anderson is one of the area leaders in rushing touchdowns with 8 entering his teams district 23-6A matchup with Travis on Thursday night. 2nd quarter, Travis' Spencer Griffin fields the kick one yard deep in his end zone, he was actually the quarterback for Kempner his sophomore year. Griffin has his way against his former team as he blazes through the coverage and takes the kick back for a 101 yard touchdown. The two teams went into the half tied at 28. Travis jumped out to a quick lead in the 3rd quarter, on fourth and 4 Cody Cunningham dumps it to Steven Simms and Simms takes off through the middle of the Kempner defense for a 47 yard touchdown and a 35-28 Tigers lead. Kempner comes back, late in the 3rd, Nick Anderson punches it in from a yard out. The Coogs would take the lead after a 2 point conversion. 4th quarter, Anderson gets the call again and finds the end zone it was his 5th touchdown of the night and Kempner was up 43-35...Anderson with good reason to be excited. But back came Travis immediately. Once again the Cunningham to Simms combination, this 55 yard strike tied things at 43. Travis got the ball back late in the 4th and with 57 seconds left Cunningham finds Hakeem Butler who wrangles it in for the touchdown, it was Cunningham's 5th touchdown pass of the night and Travis wins a high scoring affair, 50-43 the final.
