Tomball Stuns Unbeaten Klein 30-20, Stays Alive in District 15-6A Race

October 22, 2026
Tomball upsets unbeaten Klein 30-20 behind an 89-yard kickoff return and a strong second half to stay alive in the District 15-6A race.

Seven wins and no losses coming in, Klein looked like the team to beat in District 15-6A. Tomball, sitting at 5-1, had different ideas.

The Bearkats drew first blood late in the first quarter when quarterback Carter Latelle connected with Brayden Frank, who slipped behind the defense for a 6-0 lead. Tomball answered almost immediately — Landon Reynolds fielded the ensuing kickoff at his own 11-yard line, found a crease, and outran the coverage for an 89-yard touchdown return to put the Cougars up 7-6.

Klein reclaimed the lead in the second quarter on a punishing 32-yard touchdown run by Kendrick Brown, who broke tackles and carried the Bearkats to a 14-10 halftime advantage. The second half turned into a back-and-forth battle. Ian Thomas gave Tomball a three-point edge in the third quarter, only for Latelle to respond with a deep strike — Frank hauling in an over-the-shoulder grab — to put Klein back in front.

The fourth quarter belonged to Tomball. Tre'Von Johnson scored on a short touchdown run, and the Cougars tacked on another score to seal a 30-20 victory. The win moves Tomball to 6-1 and puts them squarely back in the District 15-6A title hunt, handing Klein its first loss of the season.
