The Woodlands High School Football - Chevy Spotlight

The Woodlands boasts one of the most consistent programs in the city, the Highlanders have notched 5 district championships in the past 6 seasons but are longing to get back to the state championship game. A feat the Highlanders haven’t achieved since 2003. We are focused on getting better and breaking through. The Woodlands has a winning tradition, and there’s also a family tradition brewing. 3 of the coaches also have sons in the program. Linebacker coach Gary Madore and his son Hunter, Head Coach Mark Schmid and son Eric, and Defensive Coordinator Pat Kennedy and son Cole. It means a lot, you see how important it is for other kids to come through your program, and then it really hits home when your own kids go through the program. The Woodlands lost some experience this year when starting quarterback Chris Andritsos decided to focus on baseball where he could be a top 10 pick in next year’s Major League Draft. What the Highlanders do return is perhaps the best running back in school history in Patrick Carr who ran for over 2000 yards as a sophomore and is on pace to be the school’s all-time leading rusher. Patrick is explosive and is a leader. He has the desire to be great and he's such a hard worker. Schmid is well aware of not only Carr’s place in the Highlander record books, but the importance that his program has throughout the community. Not only has he coached at the school for the past 25 years, but he also graduated from McCullough which was the former high school in The Woodlands. In fact he’s one of 4 coaches on the current staff to be former Highlanders themselves. Congratulations to The Woodlands Football Team, this week’s Chevy Spotlight.
