Summer Creek Bulldogs vs. Barbers Hill Eagles - 2013-14 - Girls Basketball 02/01/14
The Barber's Hill girls entered the week as the highest ranked 4A girls team in the city according to the coaches poll, but staying that way wouldn't be easy this week as they had to travel to Summer Creek. The Bulldogs sat just a game behind the Eagles in district 19-4A play and were coming into the matchup with a lot of momentum as they tried to avenge a loss to Barbers Hill from the first round of district play. The showdown gave Barbers Hill coach Tri Danley a chance to capture career win number 499, while Summer Creek's Angie McDonald was coaching with a heavy heart after her father died on Monday. All Bulldogs early on, late in the 1st quarter, Summer Creek goes inside to Arielle Bermudez for a 9 point lead. The Bulldogs continued to pour it on, Urishawn Crockett pumps and it was 18-6 after 1. 2nd quarter sees Jayla Calhoun with the bucket and Summer Creek took a 30-17 lead into the break. The 1st kind of spark for Barbers Hill came in the latter stages of the 3rd, Kimberly Carter cuts the lead to 34-22 and while she was fired up, Barbers Hill couldn't sustain the momentum. The Bulldogs kept grinding, Crockett with a great shot & 1, and Summer Creek makes a statement with the convincing and emotional 52-41 victory. That was my mom and I lost my dad on Monday kind of unexpectedly so I'm going from this to celebrating his life tomorrow so she was here today to celebrate this victory with me as well, we did it daddy, we did it.
