Stratford Spartans vs. Brenham Cubs - 2014 Football - Week 7

Stratford was hoping to churn out a victory as it faced Brenham in a matchup of undefeated teams in district 19-5A. It was also a showdown of the top two returning running backs in the area who played in 4A last year, Stratford's Rakeem Boyd and Brenham's Earnest Patterson. On the 1st play from scrimmage, Stratford's Rakeem Boyd gets outside and takes it 55 yards for the touchdown 7-0 Spartans just like that. Brenham's Walter Thomas comes up with possibly the play of the week, look at the catch from Caleb Hill as he lays out in mid air. Take a look one more time, Wow! But Hill overthrows his receiver later in the drive and Greg Lee takes it back into Cubs territory with the pick. It set up a touchdown to make it 14-0 Stratford. Most kick returners would let this one go dead, but not Brenham's Earnest Patterson. Look at the burst of speed as he cuts all the way across the field for a 56 yard punt return to cut the lead to 14-7. It was one of his 4 touchdowns, and Patterson would also rush for 255 yards. Not to be outdone Boyd had 273 yards on the grind, this is his 3rd touchdown of the half, another 55 yarder to make it 28-14 Stratford in the 2nd quarter, Mark Murdock got it done in the air finding Jordan Work for a 44 yard touchdown and Stratford hands Brenham it's first district loss since 2009 56-31 is the final.
