The last three years have been successful ones for the St. John's wrestling program with two S-P-C championships in 2013 and 14 and finishing runner-up last season. Head Coach of the Mavericks, Alan Paul attributes that success to the culture set forth by the school. Anchoring the Mavericks this season is their lone senior, Yo Akiyama, the winningest wrestler in school history. In what can be a very individual sport, these St. John's wrestlers have taken on more of a team mentality and it shows on and off the mats, especially in their post-match tradition of going to IHOP. The Mavericks are primed to get back on top of the S-P-C this season and even capture the programs first state championship. One thing is for sure though, win or lose they we be donning their traditional camo and headed to IHOP after it’s all over.
