Sam Houston Tigers vs. Yates Lions - 2014/15 Boys Basketball - 12/30/14
The 50th annual Conroe Christmas Classsic saw two of HISD's best battle in the finals. Sam Houston and Yates. Yates is known for their fast paced attack, but Sam Houston gives them a taste of own medicine early as Kennard Robinson gets it up to his twin brother Lennard Robinson. This went back and forth Sam Houston's Jaqualin Greene-Duplichain takes the long pass for the basket on one end, but Yates comes right back as Cordal Hankerson zips it down court to Terrand Bennett who gets fouled for a 3 point play. Jacob Young is one of the area’s top juniors, he nailed a couple of 1st quarter 3 pointers and Yates was up 1 after 1. Sam Houston comes out firing in the 2nd quarter Kendrick Davis knocks down a 3 pointer to spark an 18-5 run in about a 3 and half minute to span and after Lennard Robinson dishes to Greene-Duplichain Sam Houston was up 38-25. But Yates made a late push and after this Rolland Roberson putback the Lions and head coach Greg Wise were only down 5 @ halftime 42-37. Things stayed tight throughout the 2nd half, Lorenzo Phillips cuts through the lane and Yates cuts the lead to 72-70 with just over :30 seconds to play. But Greene-Duplichain was in the right place at the right time throughout the night, he led everyone with 32 points as Sam Houston makes a statement with the 74-70 victory and 2 weeks after winning the HISD tournament, the Tigers add the Conroe Christmas Classic to their resume.
