Reece Alston Hits Two Clutch 3s to Force OT, Second Baptist Tops Dallas Carter 56-54
With a room full of Division I coaches watching — including Houston head coach Kelvin Sampson — Reece Alston made sure the moment wasn't wasted. The Second Baptist guard delivered one of the more dramatic finishes of the showcase circuit, hitting back-to-back three-pointers in the final minute to force overtime against Dallas Carter before the Eagles walked away with a 56-54 win.
It wasn't Alston carrying the load early. In the first half, he deferred to Will Goolsby, who caught fire from behind the arc and knocked down five three-pointers as Second Baptist jumped out to a 12-0 start. The Eagles still trailed by two at halftime, and Carter pushed the lead to six with under a minute to play.
That's when Alston took over. He pulled up and hit a three to cut the deficit to three, then — with 28 seconds left and Carter's inbound pass finding Kaiden Eason for a two-handed slam that made it 54-51 — Alston answered immediately with another three to tie the game and send it to overtime.
Second Baptist's showcase used a sudden-death overtime format: first basket wins. Carter had possession but a player dribbled off his own foot, and Aaron Smith scooped up the loose ball and finished the breakaway layup to end it — Eagles 56, Cowboys 54.
