Playoffs Week 6 - Cedar Hill Longhorns vs. Katy Tigers - 2013 Football

12/21/13

An 8th title would tie Katy for the most all time in Texas with Celina and Southlake and the Tigers were fired up at the prospect, but it was Cedar Hill who got some breaks early DeMarkus Lodge goes 41 yards around the end, but he gets stripped by Collin Wilder. Denvre Daniels, scoops up the bounce and goes 39 yards for a touchdown and Cedar Hill was up 10-0 with just over 4 minutes to play in the 1st half. Katy comes to life, Rodney Anderson busts through for a 66 yard touchdown run to cut the lead to 3. Another solid night for the junior as he rolled up 146 yards. Just over a minute later Garrett Doiron connects with Sloan Spiller for a 44 yard touchdown and then with under a minute to play in the half JoVanni Stewart picks up the fumble and goes 77 yards the other way, and just like that a 10 point Cedar Hill lead is transformed into a 21-10 Katy halftime lead. Katy taking all the momentum into the locker room at halftime but like any great heavy weight fight, old mo has a way of changing. With Katy protecting a slim 3 point lead, Cedar Hill's Xavier Washington swung things back Cedar Hill's way with the strip of sophomore tailback Kyle Porter. Kyle Goss is johnny on the spot falling on the football in Katy territory. The Longhorns would need just 4 plays to cash in with a touchdown, junior tailback Cedric Ware doing most of the damage with this jaunt down the right sideline, he finished with 124 yards on just 16 carries. That put Cedar Hill up 27-24 with just 6 minutes left to play. No panic on the Katy sidelines but then disaster struck on the ensuing kickoff as Tony Mullins can't get a handle on the return, the ball is loose and Cedar Hill has it at the Tigers 16 yard line. It took 6 plays but on 3rd and goal from the 4 yard line the Longhorns finally pound the ball into the end zone with Ware once again doing the honors, a crushing defeat to end Katy's season by a final of 34-24. The Tigers final record is 15-1 but despite the loss, senior Jake Blomstrom has no regrets as he knows this team laid it all on the line. Jake Blomstrom "I wouldn't trade this team away for anybody. I love these guys, its been a hell of a ride these last 4 years. Going 53-3, I wouldn't trade it for anything."
