Playoffs Week 6 - Allen Eagles vs. Pearland Oilers - 2013 Football
Pearland was all smiles as over 54,000 fans were on hand to see the Oilers try to stop Allen from winning a 3rd state title in 6 years. Oklahoma State commit Justin Phillips and the Oilers defense would have to stop an Allen attack that average over 50 points per game, just in the playoffs alone. Things were looking great for Pearland early on as Connor Heath finds the President Carter Jefferson in the corner, the helmet comes loose, but the ball doesn't and Pearland is up 7-0. But Allen has one of the most electrifying players in the nation in junior quarterback Kyler Murray. The son of former Texas A&M quarterback Kevin Murray puts on a show, he ran for 188 yards on 13 carries including this gem setting up the Eagles deep in Oiler territory. From there Jaelen Barlow takes it around the end for the touchdown to tie the game at 7. Zachary Boegler pounds in for a 1 yard score and it's 14-7 Oilers. Murray was a part of 5 Allen touchdowns including this 9 yard strike to Jaylen Guyton to give Allen a 21-14 lead in the 2nd quarter. Murray wasn't perfect, the pass is intercepted by Connor Chidester and he returns it 58 yards to the Allen 19, it was one of 4 costly turnovers as Pearland's Zachary Boegler makes the Eagles pay. He looks like Tim Tebow as he jumps and finds Hayden Cole in the endzone but the Oilers were down 35-21 at halftime. Despite head coach Tony Heath's efforts to give his team a spark, they would need a lot more than 4 turnovers to win this one. Allen storms out of the gate in the 3rd quarter. This touchdown pass to Cole Carter late in the 3rd was part of a 28-0 run, as Allen runs away with things, 63-21.
