Pearland High School Football - Chevy Spotlight
The P may stand for Pearland, but Perennial Playoff Powerhouse also fits. We're a good team, everyone looks to put a hit on us Another appropriate P word would be passion, something Tony Heath has seen change dramatically since he arrived at Pearland in 1997. You go around town you see the P everywhere, that's a fun thing to see 17 years ago kids were afraid to wear their letter jackets now they wear them in 100 degree weather. It's understandable considering the school went from not winning a playoff game for 50 seasons between 1950 and 1999 to becoming one of the winningest programs in the city over the past decade. It helps when you average around 45 points per game, and give up under 10 as the Oilers have done this season. It's really a tradition all the guys who came before you going deep in the playoffs every year our freshman year guys like Trey Anderson, Miles Knipes, Samuel Ukewachu they really set the standard for you, when you know you're coming to Pearland you know you have to work hard if you want to be on the field and if you want to be part of this special tradition. The won state our freshman year it was exciting to experience that even though we weren't on the field. Coach Heath has said to us multiple times we're the last class that has experienced state so it's up to us to set the bar. With all the expectations and attention they're used to the Spotlight, and now the Pearland Oilers are this week's Chevy Spotlight Honoree.
