Manvel Mavericks vs. Pearland Oilers - 2014/15 Boys Basketball - 01/16/15
Pearland was hosting Manvel, and look at the production value at Pearland as they turn out the lights for the pregame player intros. It’s like the NBA. But Manvel took the home crowd out of it early. The D'Eriq King bucket leads to a hot start for Mavs. Manvel has one of the states top freshmen in Jalen Preston. The 6-2 guard shows his range with the 3 pointer to make it 11-2 Manvel. And then in the 2nd quarter Preston shows he can be a mismatch inside. Some explosiveness there and Manvel took a 14 point lead into the 2nd half. Pearland got back into in it in the 3rd though, Ajare (Uh-Jar-eee) Sanni (Sonn-eee) goes the length of the floor cutting the lead to 35-24. And then final seconds of the quarter, it’s John Deterville with the rebound and he hits the buzzer beater and all the sudden it was just a 7 point game after 3. 35-28. In the fourth Pearland trying to keep it going, but Preston says no, he gets the takeaway and throws it down on the other end and just like that the Pearland momentum was gone. Sean Dykes with the 3 point play to put the Mavericks back up 16 and they win 57-42. Dykes had 13, but the big story was the freshman Preston who led all scorers with 21 points.
