Klein and Klein Oak kick off district play with an absolute barn-burner…
it’s 7-0 Klein in the first when Klein Oak quarterback Montrell Bolton feels the pressure, so he scrambles to his right and floats one up for Dwight Mcglothern junior who pulls it in for a 14-yard touchdown, panthers knot things up at 7 apiece.
After a Bearkats field goal, the panthers answer through the air once again. Bolton fires a thunderbolt downfield for Mcglothern, who catches it in stride, Mcglothern is so far behind the secondary he can throw it in cruise control, it’s an 83-yard touchdown pass, Klein Oak leads 14-10.
Klein looking to answer. Bryce Corriston back to pass but he doesn’t see anything, so he takes off, breaks a couple tackles and picks up 22 well-earned yards down inside the panthers 5 yard line.
Kenzo Viteri punches it in for a 3-yard touchdown run for the Bearkats, Klein leads 17-14 at halftime.
In the third, it’s Corriston calling his own number, he muscles his way across the goal line on the qb sneak and Klein opens up a 24-14 advantage.
But back come the panthers. Thomas Crowl in at quarterback, and he keeps it on the read option. He zips 25 yards for the Klein Oak touchdown that trims the deficit to 24-21.
Then in the fourth, Bolton back in, and he lobs it up to Mcglothern for his third touchdown catch of the night, Klein Oak reclaims the lead, 28-24.
But Klein marches right back down the field, and Corriston hammers it into the end zone one more time. Bearkats go back in front 31-28 with 3 minutes remaining.
Klein Oak’s last chance, 4th and 2 at midfield, the ball squirts loose and Maxton Sloan recovers for the Bearkats, Klein stuns Klein Oak to open district play, 31-28 is the final.
