Katy Tigers Dominate Paetow 56-14 to Take Control of District 22-6A
Unbeaten and firmly in control of District 22-6A, Katy made a statement Thursday night against crosstown rival Katy Paetow, pulling away for a 56-14 victory that reinforced the Tigers' standing as one of Houston's top programs.
Mason Hartwell got things started on the opening drive, running a read-option to perfection and picking up 25 yards for the early lead. He followed that up with a well-executed fake on the next possession, drawing defenders and opening a lane for Fayo George, who took the inside handoff 26 yards untouched.
Paetow showed some fight when Ameir Rutherford found Treyvon Mabry on a bubble screen, with Mabry making a cut to get into the end zone and trim the deficit to seven. But Katy answered immediately. Al Vaughn Rodgers fielded a squib kick at his own 21, made one cut, and outran the coverage for a 79-yard return — one of the plays that pushed the lead to 28-14 at halftime.
Katy wasted no time in the second half. On the first play of the third quarter, Braylon Pettaway took a toss on an end-around, followed his blockers, and cruised 51 yards to the end zone. From there, the outcome was never in doubt.
The Tigers' 56-14 win tightens their grip on District 22-6A as the playoff push intensifies.
