Budd Booth took over the head coaching job for Houston Memorial tennis 20 years ago. Little did he know, 5 years later he’d start a streak that has made the Mustangs one of the premier tennis programs in the state. Including this year, Memorial has won 15 straight regional championships which broke the old record of 13 set by Katy Taylor. It’s a streak that Booth is very proud of
The 2023 Mustangs certainly didn’t let down their fans as they were 15-0 heading into the state tournament. The Memorial players take pride in their school’s success and it shows as they spend a good majority of their free time perfecting their craft.
The Mustangs have earned state championships in 2017 and 2019 and with “the streak” still intact, Memorial has gotten used to the feeling of winning. Tennis is usually an individual sport, but to be able continue an impressive streak like this one as a team….well, that makes it feel even better.
