Galveston High School Girl's Basketball - Chevy Spotlight

02/13/15

Founded in 1884, Galveston Ball is one of the oldest public schools in Texas. The pictures on the walls depict a rich history, but it took 130 years for this moment. Never outright champs, although the Lady Tors had claimed a share of the district championship in 1984. Until last season the Ball girls hadn’t even won a playoff game. It was Head Coach Sonny Benefield's 2nd year on the job. The Lady Tors haven't been alone in their quest for unprecedented success. Benefield has been coaching for 38 years and his old school approach has certainly paid dividends. The Ball girls play at a whirlwind pace which certainly lives up to the Tornado name. A Golden Opportunity for the Golden Tornadoes. The Galveston Ball girls’ basketball team, this week’s Chevy Spotlight.
