Foster Falcons vs. Calhoun Sand Crabs - 2014 Football - Week 9

10/24/14

Foster was hosting last seasons 4A Division 2 State Semifinalists Port Lavaca Calhoun. 2nd qtr Calhoun gets some strong running from Skyler Blinka as they grind their way down the field. It set up a Sand Crabs touchdown and the two teams went into the break tied at 14. Same score in the 4th, and Foster goes to the air. Trevor Parker connects with Evan Fairs for the 2nd time on the night. This 30 yard touchdown puts the Falcons up 21-14. Just over a minute left in the game, and things were looking bleak for Calhoun as they faced a 4th and 10 from the 28, but Raheem Jones finds J.C. Garcia who takes it in for the touchdown and Calhoun is back in business. Sand Crabs Head coach Richard Whitaker elects to go for 2, the gutsy call pays off as Garcia dives in and it’s 22-21 with just 1:10 to go. But it was just enough time for Foster to come back and on the final play the Falcons use a little trickery with the reverse. Brandon Taylor finds Cederian Lamb in the end zone, and what a catch by Lamb right as time expires. Foster thinks it’s won the game, but the play gets called back for an illegal man downfield. However because the game can't end on an offensive penalty Foster gets one more chance. They used up their trick play so Fairs goes for the old fashioned Hail Mary and Lamb who is just a sophomore, but is 6-3 with a 42 inch vertical jump makes the most of the extra opportunity. This time the touchdown sticks and 28-22 is the final as Foster wins a wild one and what a moment for the sophomore.
