Moving down to Class 5A, Manvel looking to wrap up the district title, hosting Fort Bend Willowridge…
Problems early on for Manvel on special teams, the Mavs can’t handle the punt cleanly and Willowridge’s Robert Branscomb scoops it up for the Eagles and heads the other way for a Willowridge touchdown, Eagles lead 7-0.
Manvel responds on the ground as De’monte Seymore gets the carry and he sees a huge hole to run through. Seymore takes it 38 yards for a Manvel touchdown, Mavs even it up at 7 apiece.
It’s 14-7 Willowridge when Donovan Eaglin gets his number called Manvel. Eaglin has room to run, makes a man miss, and he’s off to the races, he travels 50 yards for the Manvel touchdown and it’s 14-14 after one.
Willowridge goes to the air in the 2nd, Rufus Scott connects with Marquise Garrett along the sideline, Garrett shakes free of his defender and takes it all the way for a 41-yard touchdown, Eagles up 21-14.
In the third, that same duo hooks up one more time for Willowridge, as Scott finds Garrett for a 17-yard score and the Eagles are smelling an upset.
Moving to the fourth, it’s tied at 35-all now, and Scott goes to Garrett one more time, and Garrett uses the nice move to break loose, it’s a 53 yard touchdown pass, and Willowridge leads Manvel 41-35.
Manvel answers through the air, Tucker Yarbrough hits Jalen Paxton, and Paxton spins away from the defender and there’s nobody between him and the end zone, it’s a 37-yard touchdown and Manvel goes back in front 42-41.
Mavs trying to put it away late in the fourth, and Eaglin takes it the distance for a 30-yard touchdown, and Manvel survives a scare and wraps up the district crown with a 49-41 win over Fort Bend Willowridge.
