Fort Bend George Bush Boy's Basketball - Chevy Spotlight
July 21, 2018
Bush Head Coach Ronnie Courtney is a commanding presence on the sidelines and one of the most successful coaches in Texas High School History. In 20 years as a high school head coach he’s won over 450 games and state championships at 2 schools, Bush in 2010 and back to back titles with Willowridge in the early 2000’s. It’s not just current and former players that recognize Courtney’s brilliance. The Prairie View Interscholastic League Coaches Association is enshrining him into its hall of fame. The honor is well deserved, but Courtney has more immediate issues. The Broncos reached the regional finals the past two seasons only to lose to the eventual state champions. Travis in 2013, and North Shore last season. They’d be a contender in 6A, but they remained in 5A this year after realignment raising the expectations to even higher levels. 2 Broncos starters will be on college rosters next season, Brendon Gannaway will play for Southern, and Eden Ewing will head to Nevada. But Bush is also having to blend 3 underclassmen into the starting 5 including freshman point guard PJ Byrd. Courtney has never started a freshman point guard before and that includes Houston Hoops legend TJ Ford. The Bush Broncos Boys Basketball Team this week’s Chevy Spotlight.
