El Campo High School Football - Chevy Spotlight

It's a place like many others across the Lone Star state, Friday Nights are the talk of the town even on Sunday mornings. When I first got here I went to church we walked out and they introduced me as the new coach when we joined the church, this lady comes up and says welcome she walked by and she turned around and she stopped and said coach welcome to El Campo but we do want to win around here. Two things the community expects and wants to win and be competitive, these kids when we came here my daughter was in 5th grade, all these young guys want to be Ricebirds. When I first got here, church lady says welcome we do want to win. I love being a Ricebird no bones about it, I enjoy it, there's a lot of pride and hard work, I enjoy the title. The pride comes from winning, before dropping down to 3A in 2012, El Campo was the 5th winningest 4A team in the state. Except for a stint in Victoria a fair share of that success has come under Gillis' watch which started back in 1992. He's a good a guy as you can get, you got somebody honest you know he's not gonna lie that's the impact he's had, you gotta be an adult grow up and learn the truth. The El Campo Football Team, this week's Chevy Spotlight.
