Deer Park Stays Unbeaten at 6-0, Tops Clear Springs 38-21
Six games in, Deer Park still hasn't lost. The Deer moved to 6-0 on the season with a 38-21 victory over Clear Springs at Abshier Stadium, a game that required a strong second half to put away a Chargers team that refused to go quietly.
Deer Park got on the board first when Kai Saputal took a handoff, cut back to the left, and turned it into a 23-yard touchdown run to make it 7-0 after the first quarter. Clear Springs responded early in the second when quarterback Kaedyn Hutto connected with Parker Trampsoch on a 57-yard touchdown pass to tie the game.
The Deer answered with a ground-and-pound approach. Trace Yates broke into the open field and set up a one-yard touchdown push, and then Zachary Zuniga executed a halfback option pass to Jack Paradysz for 34 yards before punching it in himself on a short-yardage run. Deer Park led 21-7 at the half.
Clear Springs cut the deficit to seven early in the fourth quarter when Hutto found Trampsoch again β this time on a contested catch that kept both feet in bounds for the score. But Deer Park responded quickly. Paradysz lined up at quarterback in the shotgun and found Aandon Schroeder open for a touchdown pass, pushing the lead back to 28-14.
With the Chargers driving and threatening to make it a one-possession game again, a Hutto pass was deflected and Dontrell Sykes came up with the interception, returning it to flip field position. Paradysz then capped the scoring with a powerful short touchdown run β his second score of the night β to seal the 38-21 final.
