Deer Park High School Softball - Chevy Spotlight

03/06/15

With a significant amount of talent and chemistry returning to the diamond, a 3rd state championship in the past 4 seasons is a distinct possibility for Deer Park. We’re all comfortable we know each other’s personalities. It’s not like we’re pressured but we’re relaxed and we know what it takes to get there. Relaxed may be an understatement, when you have class clown…err rather 4 year starting third baseman Rhonda Jarvis who is signed with Baylor and is the team’s top hitter. But once you get past some of the antics, and interesting headwear choices there’s a focused and goal oriented squad that knows the formula for success. We try to stay humble and not to get bigheaded and everybody is working hard which sets us apart from the other teams. Every year we sit and talk individual goals, last year’s team goals they understand the formula to develop a champion every year is different and if they get off the track they can get back on. We do strength testing to become a well-rounded team. Obviously so much starts with pitching and Deer Park has a pair of proven Aces in Erin Edmunson who is only a sophomore and is already signed with Texas Tech, and all American senior Payton McBride who is headed to Texas A&M. And if that’s not enough Coach Austgen also has sophomore McKenna Fryar who was on the JV last year, but has committed to play for Texas State. Our pitching is really dominant we still Erin and Payton and McKenna we have Rhonad and Tyler and me at short we all kind of know what we’re doing everything is pretty solid. Rodarte will play for TSU next year, and in addition to all of the talent on the field, head coach Carrie Austgen who is in her 31st season of coaching softball has constantly figured out how to press the right buttons. NATS OF COACH She’s a great coach she’s real strategic knows how to save people knows how to get people at the right time. It’s really a lot of hard work everyone has to mesh, every year is a different year. Kind of have to stay together should have some really good players. You come here and there’s a bunch of great talent and there’s desire and we made a championship culture they’re very competitive they’re so coachable you put all that together and it’s what we do now.
