Let’s head over to Tully Stadium where Cy Ridge visits the Stratford Spartans in a big district tilt.
Defense dominates the first quarter. Cy Ridge on the move, but there’s Stratford’s Javon Brandon leaping for the interception. What an athletic play right there for the Spartans.
Cy Ridge gets on the scoreboard in the second, Leslie Wellington takes the direct snap, he has a big hole, and he goes 11 yards for the Rams touchdown, Cy Ridge up 7-0.
It’s 10-0 Rams when Stratford’s AJ Abbott fires over the middle for joey cobb for the short touchdown pass. Spartans cut it to 10-7 at halftime.
Moving to the third, Cy Ridge’s Isaiah Phillips buys himself time and then finds Aaron Woods for the touchdown pass, Rams open up a 17-7 lead.
Stratford on the move in the fourth, here’s Abbott on the keeper, and he battles his way for the first down inside the one-yard line of the Rams.
He then punches it into the end zone on the QB sneak and the Spartans are back within three at 17-14, midway through the fourth quarter.
After the Spartans defense forces a 3 and out, Abbott plunges across the goalline one more time, to give Stratford a 21-17 lead.
So Cy Ridge needs a late touchdown drive, but the Spartans defense comes up big one more time. Another Stratford interception, this one an absolute backbreaker for Cy Ridge, and the Spartans return it deep into Rams territory.
Abbott sneaks it in one more time, and how about the Stratford Spartans, they improve to 2-0 in district play with a 27-17 win over Cy Ridge.
