Cy Falls Edges Cy-Fair 41-38 in District 16-6A Battle of Unbeatens
District 16-6A had its marquee matchup of the early season Friday night, and it delivered. Cy Falls and Cy-Fair came in a combined 6-0, and 79 points later, the Eagles walked away with a 41-38 win on a last-second touchdown.
Cy-Fair struck first when quarterback Sean Riegler connected with Kevin Ferrygood, who slipped a tackle and scored to make it 7-0. Cy Falls answered with the ground game — Deron Simpson, a punishing runner, powered up the gut and set up the tying score to make it 14-14 after the first quarter.
The second quarter turned into a fireworks show. Christian Nduijuba found Andre Lewis for a back-of-the-endzone touchdown to put Cy Falls back in front. Riegler responded with a flanker screen to Julius Brown for a score, then Elijah Perkins picked off a pass and returned it for a pick-six to give Cy-Fair a 28-21 lead. Nduijuba answered just before halftime, hitting Karzell Davis on a deep ball — Davis held on despite getting his jersey yanked — to send both teams into the break tied at 28.
The fourth quarter kept the tension going. Simpson took a direct snap, followed his blockers, and broke free to put Cy Falls up 35-31. Riegler then threaded one into traffic and Henry Brooks came down with it to put Cy-Fair back on top by three with just over a minute remaining.
That set the stage for Davis. On Cy Falls' final possession, he got behind the entire Cy-Fair secondary, hauled in the deep ball, and walked into the end zone for the 41-38 final. Cy Falls improves to 4-0.
