Barbers Hill is unbeaten in district play heading into a showdown with Crosby…
Barbers Hill on the move in the first, Quarterback Christian Kaopua (Kuh-poo-uh) on the draw play and he has a big hole to run through, nice moves by the nimble quarterback before he’s finally tripped up at the one.
Moments later, he trots in from a yard out, and Barbers Hill is on the board, up 7-0.
Crosby looking to answer through the air, but Kade McCall says “I’ll take that, thank you very much!” It’s an interception for the Eagles, and McCall looks for room to run, he runs laterally all the way across the field before finally turning upfield and returns it inside the 30 yard line. Good field position for Barbers Hill.
That leads to a short 2-yard touchdown run by Cohn Betz, and the Eagles lead 14-0 early in the ballgame.
Still in the first, and here comes Kuh-poo-uh again, this time on the read option. He gets to the edge and he’s off to the races. It’s a 31 yard touchdown run and Barbers Hill leads 21-0 after one.
Crosby driving in the 2nd, but Barbers Hill comes up with a big takeaway, as Rex Thompson is able to secure the deflected pass for an interception in the end zone. Still 21-0 at halftime.
In the third, Kaopua back to pass, doesn’t have anything, so he scrambles, but Crosby’s Michael Ray strips the ball free and the Cougars fall on the loose ball for the recovery.
Crosby converts the turnover into points as Deniquez Dunn leaps into the end zone from a yard out, that makes it a 21-7 ballgame.
But Barbers Hill puts it out of reach in the 4th. Garrett Hagler with a huge hole to run through and he takes it 23 yards to paydirt and that’s how it ends, Barbers Hill stays perfect in league play with a 28-7 win over Crosby.
