Chevy Spotlight Looks at How Jerald Temple Has Become a Key Factor For Ball High Since He Played

AS ONE OF THE OLDEST HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE STATE OF TEXAS, BALL HIGH SCHOOL IS RICH IN HISTORY AND TRADITION.

FOR JERALD TEMPLE, BALL HIGH SCHOOL IS HOME. HE PLAYED FOR THE TORNADOES WHEN HE WAS A STUDENT, AND HE’S NOW IN HIS 16TH YEAR LEADING THE BASKETBALL PROGRAM AT HIS ALMA MATER.

5:59 I’m very excited and very proud to be the coach at Ball HS, this is my alma mater and I just want to make sure that we represent Ball High and this community in a way they can be proud

Giovanni Janke, SR G 2:50 He tells us to take pride in playing for Ball High, never play for yourself, always play for the team

Ty Polzin, SR G 1:36 He takes a lot of pride in our program, he does as much as you can to build on it, he tells us it’s not about you, it’s about showing what you can do for our school and our fans, him knowing the culture here and getting everyone together in the community, it’s really helped us

THE GOLDEN TORS HAD THE GALVESTON COMMUNITY BUZZING LAST SEASON, GETTING THE PROGRAM BACK INTO THE PLAYOFFS AND NEARLY CAPTURING THE DISTRICT TITLE. NOW THIS TEAM IS EAGER TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP.

JANKE 2:09 District champions, that’s our goal

Darion Henry, SR F 2:46 Last year we had a run at it and we fell short, and this year we’re just aiming to get it, I really wanna get one before I graduate

TEMPLE 2:40 That’s why we come to practice every day talking about how we can get better, and not letting the things that held us back last year get in our way

BALL IS OFF TO A SOLID START TO THE SEASON, HIGHLIGHTED BY A TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP IN MADISONVILLE OVER THE HOLIDAYS, AND WITH DISTRICT PLAY STARTING TO HEAT UP, THE TORS FEEL READY TO HIT THEIR STRIDE.

Giovanni Janke, SR G 1:43 It’s not what we want, like full potential right now, we still have a lot of pieces to put together, but we have a good group and I think we can do a lot of good things this year

Jerald Temple, 16th year HC :22 This is one of the better constructed teams we’ve had in a while, we have all the pieces we need to be successful, and like every other coach in the state, we’re just trying to put it all together, but I believe our best basketball is ahead of us

PART OF THE GREAT ATHLETIC TRADITION AT GALVESTON BALL IS FORMER TORS BASKETBALL STANDOUT TURNED STAR NFL WIDE RECEIVER, MIKE EVANS, AND EVANS REGULARLY RETURNS TO GALVESTON TO IMPART HIS WISDOM TO THE CURRENT TORNADOES.

HENRY 2:27 Everyone in this program looks up to Mike

Ty Polzin, SR G 2:55 He talks to us about keep working hard, work ethic is his main thing...3:21 Him representing our city and being out in the big spotlight, it’s really nice

AND AS THE CURRENT GROUP OF TORS ADDS TO BALL HISTORY, TEMPLE KNOWS THEY’LL ONE DAY PASS ON THE PRIDE OF THIS PROGRAM.

6:20 They know we’re all Golden Tors, I’m definitely gonna uphold a certain amount of standards, one day somebody else is gonna be taking my spot and hopefully it’s one of these guys
