Chevy Spotlight - Canon Boone
Canon Boone grew up in awe of his father. Although Canon knew him as “Dad”, everyone else simply called him Coach. Michael Boone has been a Defensive Line Coach for several years…..and currently he holds that position at Dickinson High School. As young Canon grew into his current size of 6’4, 280 pounds, it became more and more evident that he might reach one of his goals….to be coached by his Dad. Then, as a sophomore for the Gators, that dream became reality. Canon started every game as Defensive Tackle….with his Dad as his coach.
As great as that season was for Canon and his dad, it would be the one and only year they teamed up on the same side of the ball. Graduation hit the Gator offensive line hard in 2019 and there was a need for big bodies. Head Coach John Snelson looked to Canon to give offensive tackle a shot. It wasn’t an easy decision for Snelson to make.
And almost instantaneously Canon flourished on the o-line. Despite not much tape out there of him on the offensive side of the ball, the offers started coming in this summer. Including power 5 schools such as Virginia Tech, the college he committed to. A position he was reluctant to play, is now a new home for Canon. And although he sacrificed being coached by his Dad, Canon still finds ways to bond with him.
Behind Boone, the Gators running game will be solid, but the strength of the Dickinson offense is at tight end. Donovan Green is considered one of the best tight end’s in the country and he’s just a junior. He’s a large target who catches anything thrown his way.
His talent on the gridiron is only matched by his talent…...at home. About two years ago, Green started watching youtube videos on how to design shoes and he decided to give it a shot. He got good…...real good….and now he’s turned it into a money making hobby.
