Angleton Stays Unbeaten at 5-0 With 34-24 Road Win Over Iowa Colony
Three shutouts and an unbeaten record heading into the road trip told part of the story. What unfolded at Iowa Colony told the rest — Angleton is a team that can win ugly, and win late.
Iowa Colony struck first when Izard Evans took a handoff, slipped through the line, and turned a crease into a 53-yard touchdown to open the scoring. Angleton responded with some trickery — a pitch to Trey Gardner, a throwback pass, and a wide-open Kolt Oakes in the end zone to level it at 7.
Kasen Jammer then gave Angleton the lead with a 52-yard punt return, tip-toeing the final few yards after letting his blocking set up. But Evans wasn't done. Backed up inside his own 5-yard line and with nowhere to throw, he tucked it and ran — 92 yards later, the game was tied at 14. He added another score in the second half from 8 yards out, and Iowa Colony had a legitimate shot at the upset.
Angleton turned back to Jammer in the fourth quarter. He scored twice, including one after recovering his own fumbled snap, to put the game away. The final: Angleton 34, Iowa Colony 24.
The Wildcats move to 5-0, with their defense having posted three shutouts earlier in the season. This one required a full four quarters, but Angleton found a way.
