2015 6A D-I State Championship - North Shore Mustangs vs Westlake Chaparrals
The class 6-A Division one championship featured the North Shore Mustangs and the Austin Westlake Chaparrals. Picking things up late in the first, Westlake with the ball deep in their own territory and Noah Hodes coughs it up. K'Lavon Chaisson picks it up for the Mustangs, but would be unable to convert the turnover into points. Westlake would march right down the field and Kylen Granson takes it in untouched from 16 yards out to give the Chaparrals a 7-0 lead. After trading possessions, North Shore gets it back with a minute twenty left on the clock. They quickly get within striking distance and Maciah Long punches it in from a yard out. We go to the break tied at seven. In the third, Westlake is driving again, but Sam Ehlinger gets hit and fumbles the ball. Andrew Hyacinth scoops it up and takes it back 95 yards to the house for the big defensive score. North Shore goes up by seven. Tied up at 14 now with eight seconds left. Westlake attempting a game wining field goal from the 10 yard line. But the North Shore defense comes up big again and blocks the kick. We are headed to overtime!! In the OT, North Shore needs just six plays to get in the end zone as Maciah Long punches it in from a yard out once again. The Mustangs go up a score with Westlake a chance to answer and extend the game. North Shore forces Westlake into a fourth and goal from the 3. Kylen Granson takes takes the jet sweep handoff, but K'Lavon Chaisson pokes the ball free and it is recovered by the Mustangs as time expires. North Shore wins their first state championship since 2003, 21-14 in overtime over Austin Westlake.
