2015/16 Boys Basketball Players to Watch
It's that time of the year where we overlap the football playoffs and the start of the basketball season. With that in mind we are going to take a look at the players to watch in the Houston area this season. We start at the top of our list with arguably one of the best players in the country, De'Aaron Fox of Cy Lakes. the six foot three point guard is the best prospect coming out of the area and the state. He has average over 22 points a game the last two season while helping Cy Lakes make it to the fourth round of the playoffs each season. With offers from just about every major college program in the country, Fox ultimately chose to sign with John Calipari's Kentucky Wildcats, but first he wants to help lead the Spartans past the fourth round and into the State tournament. Next on the list, is senior Carsen Edwards of Atascocita. This six foot guard has all the skills to lead the Eagles past the regional finals, where they have been knocked out the last two seasons. Edwards averaged 24 points a game last season and looks to be on pace to top that mark this season. The Purdue Boilermakers were the lucky ones to land this stand-out guard. Moving on we find another guard on our list. This time it's Jacob Young of the Yates Lions. Young has been on the varsity team since he was a Freshman and now it's his turn to lead the Lions. With the experience of two close State title game losses behind, this senior will look to take the Lions to the top with his 24 points per game average. Jacob will be staying in state for college as he has committed to play for the University of Texas. The next player on out list decided to leave Cy Woods and is now playing for SATCH home school, it's J-J Caldwell. He averaged almost 15 points a game last season for the Wildcats and will look to improve on that mark as a senior for SATCH. Caldwell is another Houston product that is staying close to home for his college playing days as he has committed to Texas A&M. Now we have the first and only underclassman on our list, Jarred Vanderbilt. The six foot eight inch small forward from Victory Prep is a consensus top ten player in the country and listed as the number two ranked recruit in the state. During his Sophomore season, Vandebilt averaged 27 points per game to lead Victory prep to a 33-6 record. He also won a gold medal as part of the USA 2015 FIBA Americas U16 team. Number six on our list takes us out to La Porte where senior guard Alex Hobbs is making a name for himself. A six-three shooting guard, Hobbs has been lights out for the Bulldogs, already putting up a 50 and 48 point game this season. Hobbs might have the furthest to go to play his college ball as he ha committed to the Boise State Broncos. Be sure to check out the highlights every week to see these young stars as well as all the hoops talent from our area.
